28 Sep 2007 - Dear Parents Letter of 28th September 2007

Dear Parents
It is approaching that time of year when the weather may start to turn chilly. Whenever possible we take the children outdoors for their PE/Games lessons so they might like to have a pair of jogging/track suit bottoms available to wear at least until they have 'warmed up'. We are able to order jogging bottoms from our uniform supplier, if you are interested please enquire at the Office.
We will be holding our Harvest Festival in School (for the children) on Friday 5 October. As usual please be good enough to bring up/send in any produce for our service which we can then share with senior citizens of our community. Tins, packets etc can be bought in to classrooms anytime but fresh produce and flowers should be brought in first thing on Friday and placed on the table in the hall. Thank you.
There will be an opportunity for you to come along and talk with your child's teacher at Parents' Consultation Evening on either Tuesday 16 or Thursday 18 October between 3.30pm-7.30pm. As usual you will be allocated a 10 minute interview but if you feel you need to discuss any topic in greater detail, could you please make another appointment for after school one evening or come to see me. This arrangement enables the evening to run smoothly, without the need for anyone to wait too long. So that we can fit family appointments near together could you please indicate on the tear off slip at the foot of this letter, the day and the appropriate time you wish to be seen and return directly to the classteacher. We do our best to accommodate your wishes wherever we can and will notify you of your precise time as soon as possible after Monday 8 October.
Following the School's recent financial audit, we need to change our practice with regard to collecting monies from parents. In future if you need to make any payment to the School please ensure it is presented at the Office in a sealed envelope, clearly marked with your childˇ¦s name, class and reason for payment. Please forward the correct money or a cheque made payable to Somerset County Council. Thank you.
May I remind you that if your child is absent from School you should telephone the Office from 8.30am on their first day of absence and send a note in with your child on their return to School. If your child arrives late to School for any reason they must report to the Office to receive their present mark on the register before going to their class.
There are still a few parents who have not, as yet, returned either their personal details form or the report acknowledgement slip. It would be appreciated if you could do so on Monday. Thanks.
Finally it has been brought to my attention that there are rumours abounding that the catchment area for Kingsmead School is changing and therefore Bishops Lydeard pupils will be offered places at schools in Taunton instead. I have spoken personally with Geoff Tinker, Head Teacher of Kingsmead, who has assured me this is not the case and that there are no plans to make changes in the future.
Yours sincerely
Mark Smith
