Dear Parents
Welcome back for another school year and a particular welcome to our new parents and pupils. I hope you all enjoyed a good summer.
May I start by introducing our new members of staff. Deb McKie is our Finance Officer and Jo Constance and Maria Knight join us as Teaching Assistants in the Foundation Stage. We hope they enjoy working at Bishops Lydeard. Anna Dyke married last month and is now Anna Neilson. As Finance Officer; Deb McKie will handle all matters relating to income and expenditure and in addition she will also take on some administrative responsibilities, Annette Williams' role as School Secretary has expanded to include administration too and she will continue to be the 'office contact' for most parental queries.
As we have several newcomers I thought I would take this opportunity to inform/remind parents about a few points.
Our Website is updated regularly and contains copies of the most recent letters home. It also contains a copy of the School's Prospectus which itself includes the most recent information about all aspects of the School. Of course we will continue to send home paper copies of letters but I felt their inclusion on the Website would be useful. (See address above).
Our car park is for staff use only - except when we have evening functions. We need to try to ensure the safety of all who use our site and limiting the use of the car park in this way helps us to achieve this. You will notice that there is a special bay for disabled persons use only and I would ask everyone to respect this please.
Anne Smith will be producing this term's Curriculum Newsletter within the next week or so. This contains up-to-date information on the work the children will be covering this term as well as important dates. In particular keep a look out for details on a Sex and Relationships evening planned for 2 October and details about Cycling Proficiency. Again this will be repeated on the Web.
With this letter you will find enclosed two sheets to complete and return at your earliest convenience. The first is a copy of the personal details you have previously supplied. Please check these details carefully. If they are correct please sign and return. If they need amending please do so and again sign. The second sheet relates to the Recording and Use of Images which we need to keep up to date annually. Again please read carefully and return. If you have any queries relating to either of these requests please contact me directly. Thank you.
May I ask parents to ensure their children's uniform is labelled as we are usually accumulate a pile of unlabelled articles. If we cannot return items they are eventually sold as second hand uniform.
Please could you ensure you have signed and returned the acknowledgement slip from your child's School Report as we have a number still outstanding. Thank you.
May I remind parents that if you need to take your child(ren) out of School you should request an Absence Request Form from the Office in advance. There are certain restrictions with regard to what I am allowed by law to authorise so please ask beforehand if you are uncertain. May I also remind you that if you child is unwell and unable to attend school then a phonecall should be made between 8.30 and 9am. If a pupil is absent and we haven't been notified then you are likely to receive a call from us, as once again we are legally bound to account for absences. Thanks.
Finally I am able to advise parents that our remaining staff INSET (training) days this academic year will be on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday the 21-23 July 2008. School will therefore be closed to pupils on these days and there will be no further closures during the year.
Yours sincerely
